Help develop a basket of key surgical procedures

The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery established six metrics with which to globally assess the performance of surgery systems. However, variation in definitions of surgery between countries makes these metrics difficult to collect and interpret.

An international team are working to establish a list of well-defined surgical procedures that could reasonably reflect capacity of health systems to provide definitive surgical care for a variety of conditions. The concept is similar to the Consumer Price Index where a “basket” of goods and services is used to assess consumer needs and price changes across different countries and across time.

Although this is not a GlobalSurg study, the team leading this project would like to invite GlobalSurg collaborators to please spare a few moments to complete a brief survey to help select a globally relevant set of procedures for the ‘surgical basket’. The survey is accessible online here (https://bistc.redcap.bham.ac.uk/surveys/?s=9EP8M7TLR3). Thank you for your kind input to this project!
