I arrived in Rwanda in August 2016 after having been gone for over a year. The GlobalSurg2 project had been underway for some time, with multiple sites involved. I was impressed with how the local team leader had taken charge and organized the data collection. Working with the team leader, I took on the task of validator at a referral hospital where I have previously worked for several years. It was relatively easy to collect the data from patient files and enter into the database.

I am looking forward to seeing the results of this study come to fruition. I have been impressed with how this research study has inspired people to conduct research and improve outcomes. Looking forward, we ask ourselves: ‘How can we use data like this to improve outcomes and make a change?’ I look forward to the upcoming GlobalSurg RCT!
