Lots of exciting news from the GlobalSurg collaborative this month as our project launches worldwide!
Features of this months newsletter include:
1. GlobalSurg Data Collection begins! The dataset you are producing will be unique in providing a global perspective on outcomes following emergency abdominal surgery.
2. GlobalSurg Training Modules and Videos: We have created a short 10-question training module for collaborators to complete before beginning data collection. Take a look on our website!
3. Short Data Entry Form: GlobalSurg collaborators have asked for a supplementary paper form and we have delivered! This assists data capture prior to entry onto the REDCap online system.
4. Modified WHO Tool Included: A modified version of the WHO tool for assessment of access to essential surgical care is included in the GlobalSurg study, which will be the first to compare clinical outcomes to centre-level details.
Remember you are GlobalSurg! Together we can make tangible and effective recommendations to the benefit of surgical care worldwide. Please continue to share this with your friends and colleagues – there’s still plenty of time to get involved!
Happy data collecting!

Hi Jorge, I’m a general surgery resident here in Chile, I’m just starting with all the work that’s needed to get approval for this study. One of the first things is to translate the protocol to spanish. What about working together on this? I’ve seen that there are communities on fb from many countries but none from America, nor a spanish speaking one. Maybe we should start from there.
Dear Eugenio,
Thank you for your email. That would be great to work on this. I will send you a copy of the protocol in Spanish and I would appreciate your thoughts on it. Best wishes, Ewen
