GlobalSurg 2018
2018 has been a truly phenomenal 12 months for GlobalSurg – thank you & well done to all our collaborators for your many successes!

2018 started with the amazing news the GlobalSurg 2 had been published in the prestigious medical journal, Lancet Infectious Diseases, in February. This paper has had a massive impact; the story was covered by more than 30 news outlets across the world and Altmetric score for the paper is now 708 – putting it in the top 5% of all published research papers.

Following on from this success, we launched GlobalSurg 3 in March this year. The study is aiming to be the biggest ever observational study examining surgical outcomes for cancer patients around the world and is well on track to achieve that.
We have been completely overwhelmed by the response to GlobalSurg 3, which has exceeded all our expectations – within 6 months of launching the study already has 14,500 patients entered from 82 countries – with more still to come. GlobalSurg 3 now has more data than both GlobalSurg 1 and GlobalSurg 2. This has been an amazing effort by 3000 collaborators who have registered to collect data all around the world!
Data entry and the validation exercise for GlobalSurg 3 will conclude in early 2019; this will be followed by a period of intense data analysis and manuscript preparation. We’ll keep everyone informed via this newsletter of progress as we aim for publication in a high impact journal.
