The GlobalSurg 3 now has data from 16,441 patients at 449 hospitals in 84 countries, making the study our most successful to date.

The REDCap database for GlobalSurg 3 primary data will be finally and completely locked at 23:59 on 30/06/2019.

76% of participating hospital now have a validated dataset. However, we are still awaiting validation data entry from a number of sites. If you have registered as a validator but have not yet completed your validation data entry, please do so before 23:59 on 30/06/2019.
If stages 1 & 2 of your validation data entry are not complete by this time you will be removed from the authorship list.If you need any help with completing your validation, please let us know by emailing [email protected]

Validation is crucial in demonstrating the high quality of the GlobalSurg 3 data set and will be critical in ensuring the study is published in a high impact medical journal so we really need all remaining validators to complete their data entry.

Validation – Hospital Level Survey
We are delighted to have recently launched the final part of data collection for GlobalSurg 3 – the Hospital Level Survey. This is being conducted as part of the validation exercise and is collecting information relating to the facilities and cancer services usually available in each participating hospital.  Over 100 hospitals have already submitted responses.

Validators are sent the survey upon completion of validation stage 2 and can also access the survey via the ‘My Projects‘ tab in their REDCap account.

As part of the Hospital Level Survey, we are aiming to create a visual abstract of cancer care and surgical services across the globe – you can read more about this in our most recent SlackChat published on our website by clicking here.
The visual abstract will be compiled of photographs of GlobalSurg hospitals, operating tables and anaesthetic machines. 150 images have already been submitted and most excitingly, we’re hoping it might lead to a wider collaboration with the GapMinder Foundation as part of their Dollar Street initiative.

After the primary data REDCap database is locked, all collaborators will continue to have read-only access to their own data for local analysis purposes – for example, local audit purposes.
If you do not log into your account for a period of 6 months or more, REDCap automatically suspends access but we are very happy to reactivate any accounts to allow collaborators to access their data.

On the Data Collection Complete form in the Authorship project you will see the names of your team as pulled from ORCID.

This is exactly how names will appear in the final authorship list – if you wish to change this in any way you must make the edits in your ORCID profile.

In due course we will circulate a PDF containing the names of all teams that have contributed primary data.
