Quality and outcomes after global cancer surgery: a prospective, international cohort study

About GlobalSurg 3

  • Any hospital, any where in the world performing surgery for breast, gastric or colon cancers can participate

  • 4-week data collection periods between April 1st and October 31st (plus 30 day follow up)

  • Data collection teams of 3 individuals – medical students, doctors, nurses and researchers are all welcome to join data collection teams

  • PubMed citation for all collaborators

GlobalSurg 3 will determine variation in quality of cancer surgery worldwide. Quality measures will cover infrastructure, care processes, and outcomes. We will concentrate on the most common surgically treated cancers worldwide: breast, gastric and colorectal cancer.

The primary outcome measures are 30-day mortality and complication rates after cancer surgery. The secondary aim is to characterise infrastructure and care processes in the treatment of these cancers worldwide.

Teams of up to three individual will collect data on every consecutive patient that meets the inclusion criteria during any 4-week data collection between April 1st and Oct 31st (plus 30 day follow-up). You can join at any time during that period.

Multiple teams at the same hospital are encouraged to participate, provided they collect non-overlapping periods, and a team can collect more than one 4-week period if they wish.
